President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for a broader approach to resolving international conflicts, arguing that military victories alone cannot guarantee lasting peace without diplomacy, reconciliation, inclusive political processes and sustainable development.
The President made the position in his address to the General Debate of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Vice President Kashim Shettima delivered the address on his behalf on Thursday.
Tinubu’s message came against the backdrop of continuing armed conflicts and international efforts to address the political and socioeconomic conditions that sustain violence.
Diplomacy as a Path to Sustainable Peace
The President emphasised the importance of diplomatic engagement in addressing conflicts and preventing violence from becoming entrenched.
“We place our faith in diplomacy because military victories alone cannot secure lasting peace,” Tinubu said.
