Two prominent members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State, Sanusi Mai Kyame and Umar Salah, have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in a development highlighting continuing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mai Kyame, a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto North Local Government Area, was received into the APC by the party’s state chairman, Haruna Adiya.
He was accompanied by Faruku Labbo, Special Adviser to the governor on political matters, and other APC officials.
Salah, a former director-general of the ADC in the state, also joined the APC. His reception was attended by Umaru Nagwari Tambuwal, chairman of the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board, with the support of Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education Ahmed Ladan Ala.

The defections come as political parties continue to consolidate their structures and attract influential figures ahead of the next general election.
The movement of experienced party officials can affect local political networks, mobilisation efforts and relationships between party leadership and grassroots supporters.
