Apostle Sam Adegoke of Elijah Generation Church in Akure, Ondo State, has apologised to women with whom he says he had sexual relationships before his marriage.

Adegoke, who recently got married, disclosed this in a statement released on Monday, saying he had stepped back from public ministry and social media to reflect on his past conduct and seek counsel.

The cleric said he took responsibility for his actions and apologised to the women involved, as well as his wife, family, church members, colleagues and others who had trusted him in his capacity as a Christian minister.

He said the relationships occurred before his marriage but acknowledged that he regarded his conduct as inconsistent with the standards of integrity and self-control expected of him as a minister.

Adegoke said he had been receiving pastoral and professional counselling and would continue to submit himself to appropriate accountability during the process.

He also asked the public to pray for him, saying he wanted to face his past honestly, make amends where appropriate and demonstrate genuine change through his conduct.

The minister’s statement represents his own account and admission concerning his past relationships. He did not identify the women involved or provide further details about the relationships.
