The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced plans to formally launch President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign in Kaduna State on October 24, 2026, signalling an early push by the ruling party to mobilise support ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, disclosed the proposed date on Friday after meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, said the President had approved the proposed campaign timetable, which includes visits to states across the country.
According to him, the campaign council will hold its inaugural meeting on October 14 at the State House Banquet Hall, ahead of the planned Kaduna flag-off.
He also identified Port Harcourt in Rivers State and Maiduguri in Borno State as among the destinations being considered for subsequent campaign activities.
Yari said the full schedule of state visits would be made public after the campaign council’s inauguration.
The planned flag-off comes as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general election, with the ruling party expected to defend its position against opposition candidates seeking to challenge Tinubu’s bid for another term.
For the APC, a nationwide campaign will be an opportunity to present the administration’s record on economic reforms, infrastructure, security and social programmes while attempting to consolidate its support across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.
The President’s economic policies are likely to remain central to the campaign. While the administration has defended its reforms as necessary for long-term economic stability, many Nigerians continue to face pressure from food prices, transport costs and other household expenses.
The campaign will therefore provide an important platform for the ruling party to explain how it intends to translate its policy agenda into more immediate and measurable improvements in living standards.
Opposition parties are also expected to use the election period to scrutinise the administration’s performance and present alternative approaches to economic management, security and governance.
Although the APC has announced October 24 as its proposed campaign launch date, the formal commencement and conduct of election campaigns remain subject to the applicable timetable and regulations of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The extent to which the ruling party’s mobilisation efforts translate into electoral support will depend on its ability to persuade voters that the administration’s record and future plans address their priorities.
