The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has claimed that internal surveys conducted by the ruling party indicate that President Bola Tinubu is positioned to win the 2027 presidential election.

Yilwatda made the assertion during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, where he said the party had conducted polls across different states and obtained figures showing Tinubu ahead of his potential challengers.

According to him, the APC’s internal assessments provide the party with confidence about its electoral prospects as preparations intensify for the next general election.

The claim comes amid growing political activity among the ruling party and opposition groups, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

APC cites internal polling

Yilwatda said the party had carried out fact-finding exercises and gathered what he described as reliable statistics from across the country.

“We have done fact-finding; we are leading. We have done our polls. We have our own polls that give us the real statistics across the states,” he said during the television interview.

When asked whether the surveys indicated that Tinubu would win the election, the APC chairman answered in the affirmative.

However, the chairman did not provide detailed polling figures, sample sizes, fieldwork dates or other methodological information in the account available. Without those details, the findings cannot be independently assessed or compared with other electoral surveys.

Opposition contest remains open

The APC’s confidence reflects the ruling party’s position as it prepares to defend its control of the presidency. Opposition parties, meanwhile, are working to build national support and present alternatives to the administration.

Electoral outcomes will depend on several factors, including voter preferences, economic conditions, campaign organisation, candidate selection, security and the credibility of the electoral process.

Yilwatda’s prediction is therefore best understood as the ruling party’s assessment of its prospects, rather than a settled outcome of the 2027 election.

The coming months will test whether the APC can translate its claimed polling advantage into sustained public support and whether opposition parties can assemble competitive nationwide campaigns.
