Former Senator Bello Mandiya was found dead in the bathroom of his Abuja residence approximately three days after he was last seen, according to an account recounted by Senator Abdul Ningi.
Ningi, who represents Bauchi Central Senatorial District, described the circumstances surrounding the death of his former colleague, saying Mandiya had reportedly slipped and struck his head in the bathroom.
According to the account, Mandiya’s prolonged absence raised concerns among people who knew him.
Ningi said the alarm was heightened after a foul smell reportedly began emanating from the apartment, prompting concerns among neighbours over the former lawmaker’s whereabouts.
The body was subsequently discovered inside the residence.
Ningi recounted that he was in Saudi Arabia when his son contacted him with the news of Mandiya’s death.
The incident has drawn attention to the risks faced by people who live alone, particularly when an accident or medical emergency occurs without anyone nearby to provide immediate assistance.
However, the circumstances recounted by Ningi do not independently establish the medical cause of death. Any official findings would be needed to determine the precise cause and circumstances.
Mandiya previously represented Katsina South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
His death has prompted reflection on the importance of regular contact and community support for people who may be isolated, especially when an unexpected emergency occurs at home.
