Babadunni Gbolabo recounts the frantic search for medical attention after the gospel singer suddenly collapsed, while the circumstances surrounding the hospital visits remain a matter for further investigation.

The personal assistant to late Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings has recounted the efforts to obtain emergency medical attention for the musician after he suddenly collapsed in Ibadan, Oyo State, before his death on October 14, 2026.

Babadunni Gbolabo said the singer had appeared to be in good health before the incident, which left his associates scrambling to find medical assistance.

In an interview, Gbolabo explained that he received an urgent telephone call about the singer’s condition and rushed to the hospital after being informed that Toluwanisings had collapsed.

“From my understanding, there was nothing wrong with him. He has always been fine and in perfect health condition. I was told he just slumped suddenly,” he said.

PA recounts search for emergency care

Gbolabo alleged that the singer was taken from one hospital to another as those around him sought treatment.

He said some facilities were unable to provide care, with staff reportedly citing industrial action or the unavailability of doctors.

“We rushed him to UCH first, but they were on strike. We had to start moving from one hospital to another. We took him to about seven or eight hospitals, but nothing could be done,” Gbolabo said in a separate account of the incident.

His account has prompted renewed public discussion about access to emergency medical services and the challenges families can face when seeking urgent treatment.

However, the precise number of hospitals visited differs across some retellings of the incident. The figure of more than 10 hospitals should therefore not be treated as independently established without further confirmation.

The circumstances surrounding each hospital visit, including the reasons any facility may have been unable to admit the singer, have not been independently established.

Family confirms death

Toluwanisings, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, died in the early hours of October 14, according to a statement released by his family.

He was 41.

The family described him as a beloved husband, family member and gospel minister, and asked the public to keep his wife and loved ones in their prayers.

Funeral arrangements were expected to be announced by the family.

The singer’s death has drawn tributes from fans and fellow gospel musicians, many of whom have expressed shock at the sudden loss.

Questions about emergency response

The account has also brought attention to broader concerns about the availability of emergency medical services, particularly when patients need urgent stabilisation and rapid transfer between facilities.

Establishing what happened will require a clearer timeline of the singer’s collapse, the hospitals approached, the care available at each facility and any medical findings concerning the cause of death.

Gbolabo’s account provides the perspective of the singer’s associate, but it does not by itself establish medical negligence or determine why the singer died.
