The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has postponed the unveiling and inauguration of its National Campaign Council from Tuesday, October 20, to Monday, October 26, 2026.
The party announced the change on Monday, explaining that its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had an important overseas engagement that conflicted with the original date.
The National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Osa Director, announced the postponement in a statement issued on October 19, apologising for any inconvenience caused by the adjustment.
The rescheduling comes as the party prepares to strengthen its campaign structure and coordinate its political activities ahead of the 2027 general election.
Obi’s Schedule Prompts Change
According to the party, the presidential candidate’s overseas engagement necessitated the adjustment to the inauguration timetable.
The NDC had initially scheduled the event for October 20 but subsequently moved it to October 26 to accommodate the revised arrangements.
The party urged members and supporters to remain focused on its electoral objectives despite the change in date.
Campaign Council to Coordinate Party Activities
The National Campaign Council is expected to play a central role in coordinating the party’s campaign strategy, mobilisation efforts and engagement with voters across the country.
For a party seeking to compete in a national election, the council’s composition and operational effectiveness will be important in translating its political message into organised grassroots activity.
The inauguration will also provide an opportunity for the party to formalise campaign responsibilities and align its supporters around its presidential ticket.
With the new date set for October 26, attention will turn to the unveiling of the council and the party’s plans for building its campaign ahead of the 2027 polls.
