Political commentator Segun Showunmi has declared that President Bola Tinubu is better positioned than former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to win the 2027 presidential election, arguing that the incumbent does not need to visit all 36 states to secure victory.

Showunmi made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television, where he assessed Tinubu’s political standing and the strategies likely to shape the contest ahead of the 2027 general election.

“Tinubu is 1,000 times wiser than Atiku, Obi. He will defeat them again. Tinubu doesn’t need to visit all states to win; he’s popular already,” Showunmi said.

His comments reflect his confidence in Tinubu’s political experience and electoral prospects, while raising questions about the importance of nationwide campaign tours, voter engagement and political mobilisation in a presidential contest.

Tinubu’s Popularity and the 2027 Contest

Showunmi’s assertion comes amid growing political manoeuvring as parties and prospective candidates position themselves ahead of the next general election.

Campaign tours across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones traditionally provide presidential candidates with opportunities to present their programmes, mobilise supporters and engage directly with voters. However, the influence of such tours can vary depending on a candidate’s existing support base, party structures, campaign resources and the broader political environment.

The commentator’s suggestion that Tinubu could win without visiting every state places greater emphasis on the President’s existing political standing and the strength of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Nevertheless, Showunmi’s assessment remains an individual political opinion rather than an established indication of the election’s outcome. The eventual result will depend on voter preferences, candidates’ records, campaign strategies and other factors that emerge before polling day.

With the 2027 presidential election approaching, the contest is expected to intensify as political parties seek to demonstrate their nationwide appeal and persuade Nigerians to support their candidates.
