Former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike has accused police officers in Imo State of invading his hospital in Owerri, allegedly assaulting staff and patients and arresting two employees.
Emenike raised the allegations in social media posts in which he expressed frustration over what he described as repeated incidents involving officers and personnel connected to the state’s waste management agency.
According to reports of his statements, the former international footballer alleged that an earlier incident occurred on September 25, when police officers associated with the Owerri Urban Division and Oji Police Station allegedly assaulted members of his hospital staff.
He further alleged that another incident took place on Wednesday, October 21, when police and waste management officials entered the facility and arrested the hospital’s administrator and cashier.
Emenike expressed concern about the treatment of workers at the facility and called on the relevant authorities to investigate the incidents.
He also demanded the release of the detained employees, the preservation of CCTV footage that could help establish what happened, and medical attention for anyone allegedly injured during the encounters.
The former striker questioned why he was experiencing such difficulties after investing in Nigeria following his football career.
The allegations have raised concerns about the treatment of private businesses, the conduct of law enforcement officers and the need for accountability when disputes involve public officials and commercial establishments.
However, the claims remain allegations, and the circumstances surrounding the reported incidents require clarification from the relevant authorities.
As of the reports available at the time of writing, the Imo State Police Command and the state waste management agency had not issued official responses to the accusations.
A formal investigation could help establish the circumstances surrounding the reported entry into the hospital, the arrests and any alleged injuries.
The incident also highlights the importance of ensuring that law enforcement activities are conducted within the law and that complaints involving police conduct are properly investigated.
Emenike’s account has brought renewed public attention to the matter, but the allegations should be assessed alongside any response from the police, the waste management agency and other parties involved.
