Nigerian singer Mr Eazi has expressed confidence that he could eventually attain billionaire status in US dollars, while stressing that financial wealth is not his primary motivation for making music.
The Afrobeats star made the remarks during an interview in which he was asked about claims that he was on his way to becoming the first billionaire in the genre.
Responding to the question, the singer initially asked which currency the interviewer meant before affirming that he had attained billionaire status in naira terms.
When the conversation shifted to US dollars, Mr Eazi suggested that the milestone could be within reach.
“US dollars, you know, soon come,” he said, while maintaining that becoming a billionaire was not necessarily his central objective.
The singer explained that he values the freedom to pursue his creative ambitions and release music according to his own preferences.
“Freedom very big to me. Freedom musically, freedom to be able to put out music freely,” he said.
His comments reflect the growing conversation around wealth creation, business ownership and financial independence among African entertainers, many of whom have diversified their interests beyond music into investments, technology, fashion and other commercial ventures.
During the interview, the singer also discussed his business interests, including his stake in a United Kingdom-based ticketing company.
He welcomed a comparison to American rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z, whose career has combined music with significant business interests. Mr Eazi also made a playful reference to their respective relationships, mentioning his partner, Temi Otedola.
The interview highlights how some African musicians increasingly view their careers through both creative and entrepreneurial lenses.
However, Mr Eazi’s comments about his wealth and future financial prospects were personal statements rather than independently verified disclosures of his net worth.
