The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has directed the party’s state chairmen to intensify grassroots mobilisation, improve campaign coordination and work closely with candidates as preparations gather momentum for the 2027 general elections.

Dickson gave the directive during a meeting with a delegation of the party’s state chairmen, who visited him to welcome him back from vacation and express appreciation for his leadership.

According to information shared by the party on its Facebook page, the meeting focused on strengthening internal unity, coordinating campaign activities and expanding the party’s engagement with voters ahead of the elections.

The former Bayelsa State governor urged state chairmen to maintain close working relationships with NDC candidates, campaign coordinators and support groups to improve cooperation across the party’s structures.

He specifically referenced movements and support groups, including the Obidient Movement, Kwankwasiyya and the OK Movement, as part of the wider mobilisation effort.

The directive reflects the importance political parties place on grassroots organisation in Nigeria’s electoral system, where local networks, voter outreach and coordination between national and state structures can influence campaign effectiveness.

For the NDC, strengthening these structures will be particularly important as candidates seek to build name recognition, communicate their policy positions and establish a presence in constituencies across the country.

However, effective mobilisation will require more than meetings and public declarations. The party will also need to coordinate its messaging, develop credible policy proposals and sustain engagement with voters on issues such as insecurity, unemployment, inflation, public services and the cost of living.

As political parties prepare for 2027, the NDC’s ability to translate its organisational directives into sustained activity at the ward and polling-unit levels will be an important test of its electoral readiness.

Dickson’s call signals the party leadership’s intention to place grassroots engagement and coordination at the centre of its preparations for the next general election.
