Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, declaring that he remains firmly committed to the President despite criticism of the administration’s economic policies.
Sani made the declaration during an interview on Trust TV’s Daily Politics programme on Tuesday, where he discussed his political relationship with Tinubu and his position ahead of the next general election.
The governor’s remarks underscored his continued alignment with the President as the All Progressives Congress (APC) intensifies preparations for the 2027 polls.
Sani has been among the political figures publicly supporting Tinubu’s bid for another term, arguing that the President’s leadership and policies deserve continued backing.
His declaration comes amid persistent public debate over the effects of the administration’s economic reforms, including petrol subsidy removal, exchange-rate changes and measures aimed at restructuring public finances.
While supporters of the government argue that the reforms are necessary to address longstanding economic weaknesses, critics point to the rising cost of living and the financial pressure experienced by households and businesses.
For governors and other APC leaders, the coming election will require them to defend the administration’s record while persuading voters that its policies can deliver improved living standards.
Kaduna is also politically significant because of its position in Northern Nigeria, a region expected to play an important role in determining the outcome of the presidential election.
Sani’s statement signals his intention to remain an active supporter of Tinubu’s campaign. However, political declarations of loyalty do not automatically translate into electoral outcomes, which will depend on voter preferences, campaign organisation, candidates’ performance and the wider political environment.
As the 2027 election approaches, the APC will face the task of converting the support of its political leaders into votes while addressing concerns about insecurity, employment, food affordability and economic recovery.
