The ongoing feud between Nigerian street-hop artist Portable and outspoken social media commentator VeryDarkMan has taken a deeply personal and controversial turn, capturing widespread attention across the country’s online space.
What started as a war of words has now escalated into a digital slugfest, with both personalities releasing diss tracks, digging up old scandals, and airing private matters in public. On Wednesday, Portable — real name Habeeb Okikiola Badmus — shocked followers by posting an intimate video allegedly involving VeryDarkMan, a move many saw as crossing a dangerous line.
Their clash began when Portable criticised VeryDarkMan over his frequent criticism of President Bola Tinubu, accusing the activist of fanning the flames of public anger over Nigeria’s struggling economy. The singer didn’t stop there — he also alleged that VeryDarkMan had used the tragic death of fellow artist Mohbad to chase clout, while insisting that justice for the late singer had not been served.
In response, VeryDarkMan released a scathing diss track titled “Ole” (Yoruba for “thief”), poking fun at Portable’s troubled past. He even resurfaced an old 2020 video that showed Portable being beaten by a mob after allegedly stealing a phone and a tricycle — an incident that once went viral.
But Portable wasn’t going to stay silent. In retaliation, he took things up a notch by digging up and sharing private footage allegedly featuring VeryDarkMan in a compromising setting. The move has sparked outrage and raised questions about online privacy, boundaries, and the ethics of celebrity feuds.
Social media has since erupted, with fans divided — some condemning the tactics, others simply watching the spectacle unfold. The rivalry, once rooted in political disagreements and social commentary, has now turned personal, emotional, and unsettlingly invasive.
With neither side showing signs of backing down, what began as a verbal exchange may now be spiralling into a wider cultural moment — one that exposes both the power and the dangers of social media fame in Nigeria’s entertainment space.
