Afrobeats star Oxlade has opened up about a defining chapter in his career, crediting fellow singer Fireboy DML for teaching him the craft of songwriting and music composition.

During a candid conversation on a livestream with popular content creator Shank Comics, the Kulosa hitmaker revealed that Fireboy’s guidance came at a crucial stage in his artistic development.

Oxlade described Fireboy as a lyrical genius whose “pen game” is unmatched in the Nigerian music industry. According to him, observing and learning from Fireboy during his early career gave him the skills and confidence to refine his own unique sound.

“Back then, Fireboy was miles ahead. He showed me how to properly structure songs and create music that truly connects,” Oxlade said. “That mentorship completely changed the way I approached my craft.”

He added that Fireboy’s decision to support and “put him on” not only shaped his artistry but also marked a turning point in his journey toward becoming one of Afrobeats’ rising voices.
