The Nollywood community has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran actor Oyewole Olowomojuore, popularly known as Baba Gebu. He passed away on Tuesday, November 11, after a brief illness.

The announcement was made by filmmaker and actor Kunle Afod, who described the late actor as a respected figure within the industry. Afod expressed deep sadness over the loss, noting that Baba Gebu’s death came after a short battle with an undisclosed health condition.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our great legend,” Afod wrote while confirming the news. “May Baba Gebu’s soul rest in peace.”

Baba Gebu had earlier shared in 2024 that immersing himself in acting helped him cope with the death of his wife, revealing that returning to the film set prevented him from falling into depression.

His passing adds to the series of losses the industry has faced recently, prompting tributes from colleagues and fans who remember him for his dedication, humility, and contributions to the growth of Yoruba cinema.
