A musical performance by Fuji superstar Abass Akande, popularly known as Obesere, descended into violence on Friday in Okitipupa, Ondo State, after suspected thugs disrupted the event and assaulted the artiste and his team.

The incident occurred during a burial ceremony held at the Government Field. According to eyewitnesses, a group of hoodlums led by a well-known local figure identified as Michael Abbey, also called “Emir,” forced their way into the venue and launched an attack while Obesere was performing.

The disruption triggered panic among attendees, many of whom fled to avoid harm. In the chaos, the singer’s manager, who attempted to shield him, was stabbed with a broken bottle.

Personal belongings belonging to the Fuji star were also carted away. His mobile phone, wristwatch, and gold chain were reportedly stolen alongside a bag said to contain ₦4 million in cash.

One witness, Bosede Akinyemi, described the incident as “disgraceful,” explaining that the gang attacked the musician and his band openly on stage, halting the event abruptly.
