The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of another suspected kidnapping mastermind in Southern Taraba, barely 24 hours after the capture of a separate high-profile suspect in the same region.

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) apprehended the suspect during a coordinated operation in Wukari Local Government Area on November 23. The development was disclosed in a statement released late Monday by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad.

The arrested suspect, identified as Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, is believed to be closely associated with Umar Musa, a notorious kidnap ringleader who was taken into military custody on November 22. Investigators say both men are linked to a larger criminal network behind several abductions, violent attacks, and organized criminal activities across Southern Taraba.

Responding to the breakthrough, Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for what he described as exemplary professionalism and precision.

He stated that the arrest demonstrates that Operation Zafin Wuta is achieving its goal of disrupting entrenched criminal structures and restoring stability to affected communities. Brigadier General Uwa reiterated that ongoing clearance operations will remain aggressive, adding that no criminal element will be allowed to evade justice.

The Army said further investigations into Bawa’s network are underway, assuring residents that troops remain on high alert. Security authorities also urged members of the public to stay vigilant and provide credible intelligence to support ongoing military efforts.

The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation.
