The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has circulated a video claiming responsibility for an attack on Nigerian Army personnel in Mairari, a community in Borno State.

According to details contained in the footage released on Tuesday, the armed group alleged that it ambushed troops operating in the area. The video also displayed military equipment and weapons the group claimed were seized during the encounter.

Although the Nigerian Army has not issued an official statement regarding the incident as of press time, security analysts note that the location mentioned falls within a zone that has witnessed repeated confrontations between security forces and insurgent factions.

Efforts are underway to independently verify the authenticity of the footage and the extent of the reported losses.

Borno State remains the epicentre of the ongoing insurgency, with military operations continuing across several local government areas.
