Nigerian singer CKay has become the first solo Nigerian artist to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify with his 2019 hit Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah). The milestone also makes him the first solo male African artist to reach the Spotify 1 Billion Club.

Reacting to the achievement on X, CKay wrote: “First solo Nigerian song to cross 1 billion streams. Grateful to God and the people involved in this historic success! Thank you for streaming.”

Wizkid was the first African artist to join Spotify’s billion-stream milestone in 2017, with his collaboration with Drake on One Dance, which holds a Guinness World Record as the first song to reach 1 billion streams on the platform.

Rema became the first African lead artist to surpass 1 billion streams with the remix of his hit Calm Down featuring Selena Gomez, while South African singer Tyla is the first African female artist to join the club with her viral track Water.

CKay’s achievement marks a significant moment for Nigerian music, highlighting its growing global reach and influence in the streaming era.
