Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday began assembling at the Congress Secretariat in Abuja ahead of a nationwide protest over worsening insecurity across the country.
The gathering, which commenced early in the day, is being led by NLC President, Joe Ajaero, alongside key figures from civil society organisations. Among those present are Omoyele Sowore and members of the Revolution Now Movement.
Security operatives were visibly deployed around the venue, with personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) monitoring activities in the area.
The protest follows the NLC’s earlier announcement designating December 17 for nationwide demonstrations to draw attention to escalating security challenges, including attacks by armed groups, kidnappings, and violent crimes in several parts of the country.
Organisers say the protest is aimed at pressuring the Federal Government to take more decisive action to protect lives and property and restore public confidence in national security efforts.
