Residents of Umuchimanyiri village, Obazu Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State were thrown into shock on Tuesday after two siblings were accused of killing their elder brother and burying his body in a shallow grave within their compound.
The suspects, identified as Lucky and Uzoma Amadi, were arrested on February 10, 2026, following the discovery of the alleged crime. The victim, Orindu, was said to have been reported missing after the suspects allegedly told villagers that he had travelled out of the state.
Suspicion grew within the community as inconsistencies emerged in the brothers’ account of Orindu’s whereabouts. Angry youths later stormed the family residence and compelled the suspects to exhume the remains from a shallow grave reportedly dug within the compound.
A journalist, Okeoma Chidiebube, who visited the scene, said tensions escalated as enraged residents demanded justice, accusing the suspects of attempting to conceal the killing.
Police officers from the Mbieri Divisional Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer, arrived at the scene and intervened to prevent mob action. The officers took the suspects into custody and recovered the remains for further investigation.
One of the suspects, a tricycle operator, reportedly told investigators that the deceased had been responsible for their father’s death several years ago, a claim that has not been independently verified.
As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, had yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged killing.
