Several residents are feared dead following an attack by suspected Lakurawa bandits on Dadin-Kowa community in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday night, February 25, as worshippers gathered for Taraweeh prayers at a local mosque during the holy month of Ramadan.
Security analyst and crisis journalist Bakatsine disclosed the development in a post shared on social media on Thursday, February 26, stating that the attackers stormed the community and opened fire on worshippers.
According to preliminary reports, multiple fatalities were recorded, while several other residents sustained injuries in the assault. The mosque was also reportedly vandalised during the attack.
Images circulating online from the scene showed blood-stained prayer mats inside the mosque, underscoring the severity of the incident.
Reacting to the development, Bakatsine described the attack as a stark reminder of ongoing security challenges in parts of northern Nigeria. He noted the timing of the assault during Ramadan and condemned the targeting of worshippers.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to release an official statement confirming casualty figures or detailing steps being taken in response to the attack.
Investigations are expected to commence as security agencies work to restore calm to the affected community.
