The Lagos State Government has introduced a three-month free transportation programme for police officers serving across the state.
The initiative provides participating officers with complimentary access to major components of Lagos’ integrated public transportation system.
According to a statement attributed to police spokesperson ASP Aminat Mayegun, 2,000 Cowry Cards were handed over to the police at an event in Lagos.
The cards provide officers with unlimited complimentary access to the Blue Line and Red Line rail services, electric water boats and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) services for three months.
The initiative was introduced as part of efforts to recognise the contribution of police officers to maintaining security and public order in Lagos.
The state government is also considering a 50 per cent transport fare discount for police officers after the complimentary period ends.
The police welcomed the gesture, with AIG Simeon Akpanudom, representing Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, expressing appreciation to the Lagos State Government.
The initiative is expected to reduce the daily transportation burden on officers who travel across the state as part of their duties.
It also represents another area of collaboration between the Lagos Government and the Nigeria Police Force on personnel welfare and public safety.
