Peter Obi questioned the Federal Government’s borrowing pattern and called for greater transparency in public finance management.
Peter Obi has criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu over what he described as excessive borrowing and lack of transparency in the management of Nigeria’s public finances.
Obi, who is the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), called on the Federal Government to explain the whereabouts of what he described as excess borrowings and the country’s growing debt profile.
The former Anambra State governor questioned why Nigeria continues to accumulate debt, insisting that Nigerians deserve clarity on how borrowed funds are being utilised.
His remarks add to ongoing conversations surrounding public debt management, fiscal accountability and economic governance under the current administration.
The statement reflects increasing political scrutiny over the country’s financial direction as opposition figures continue to raise concerns about borrowing and public expenditure.
As of the time of reporting, there was no immediate response from the presidency regarding Obi’s remarks.
