The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has defended President Bola Tinubu against criticism over worsening insecurity, saying the President has fulfilled his constitutional role by issuing directives to the military while also calling for stronger action against sponsors of terrorism.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has defended President Bola Tinubu against claims that he has not done enough to address Nigeria’s security challenges. Speaking at the US–Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, D.C., Adeboye said the President had discharged his responsibility as Commander-in-Chief by directing the nation’s security agencies to tackle insecurity.

Adeboye said it was unfair to expect the President to personally participate in military operations, stressing that once the Commander-in-Chief issues directives, responsibility shifts to the security agencies responsible for executing them.

While defending Tinubu’s role, the cleric acknowledged that insecurity has worsened in parts of the country, noting that terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes have spread beyond northern Nigeria into parts of the South.

Adeboye disclosed that he had discussed the security situation with President Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu. During the conversation, he advised the President to give military commanders a 90-day ultimatum to eliminate terrorism or resign, while also urging authorities to target those financing violent groups.

According to him, addressing the activities of sponsors supplying arms and logistics to criminal groups is essential to achieving lasting security improvements.

The RCCG leader maintained that although the President has fulfilled his constitutional responsibility by issuing operational directives, security agencies must ensure those directives produce measurable results.

He also called for stronger collaboration, including international support, to help Nigeria combat terrorism and other security threats more effectively.

Adeboye’s remarks come amid continued national concern over insecurity across several parts of Nigeria. While defending the President’s constitutional role, he reiterated the need for decisive action against terrorists and those who finance their activities, describing that approach as critical to restoring lasting peace.
