The Centre for Reform and Public Advocacy (CFRPA) has filed a suit before the Federal High Court in Kano seeking President Bola Tinubu’s disqualification from the 2027 presidential election over allegations relating to academic credentials submitted during the 2023 election.

The Centre for Reform and Public Advocacy (CFRPA) has instituted a suit before the Federal High Court in Kano seeking an order disqualifying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from contesting the 2027 presidential election over allegations of certificate forgery. The suit names President Tinubu, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Chicago State University as defendants.

According to court documents, the plaintiff alleged that President Tinubu submitted forged academic credentials from Chicago State University and a falsified National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate to INEC during the 2023 presidential election.

The suit, marked FHC/K/CS/312/2026, also contends that Tinubu does not possess a valid secondary school certificate and challenges aspects of the educational history contained in documents submitted to INEC. The group further alleged that INEC failed to act on an earlier petition it submitted seeking clarification on the President’s eligibility.

The legal action follows an earlier petition by the CFRPA asking INEC to clarify issues surrounding the academic credentials submitted by President Tinubu ahead of the 2023 election. The latest suit asks the Federal High Court to determine whether the President is constitutionally qualified to contest the 2027 presidential election. It is important to note that these are allegations contained in the court filings and have not been determined by the court.

As of the time of reporting, no ruling has been delivered on the matter.

The Federal High Court is expected to hear the case in due course, while the defendants will have the opportunity to respond to the claims presented by the plaintiff in accordance with the judicial process.

The suit adds another legal dimension to discussions ahead of the 2027 general election, with the matter now before the Federal High Court for determination. No findings have been made on the allegations, and the case remains pending before the court.
