The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled a new online self-service portal that enables eligible Nigerians to begin voter registration, transfer their voting location, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and update personal information without first visiting an INEC office. The initiative is part of efforts to make the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process more accessible ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has introduced a digital platform designed to simplify voter registration and other electoral services for Nigerians.

The commission said the new self-service portal will allow eligible citizens to initiate several voter-related processes online, reducing congestion at registration centres and improving access to electoral services nationwide.

According to INEC, the platform allows first-time voters to begin their registration online, while already registered voters can request transfers to new polling units, update personal information, replace lost or damaged PVCs and verify their registration status.

The commission noted that the platform forms part of its broader digital transformation strategy aimed at making voter services faster and more efficient.

INEC clarified that while many processes can now begin online, applicants may still be required to complete biometric verification or other statutory procedures where necessary before registration is finalised.

The electoral body encouraged eligible Nigerians, especially first-time voters, to take advantage of the platform during the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise.

The commission recently extended the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise by two weeks and said the online portal is intended to improve participation ahead of the 2027 elections.

INEC said the initiative demonstrates its commitment to ensuring that every eligible Nigerian has a reasonable opportunity to register and participate in the electoral process.

With the new self-service portal now operational, Nigerians can complete several voter registration services from their phones or computers before proceeding with any required physical verification, marking another step in the digitisation of Nigeria’s electoral system.
