The Independent National Electoral Commission has commenced its 2026 recruitment exercise, with applications open from July 20 to July 27 for vacancies across Grade Levels 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened its recruitment portal for the 2026 employment exercise, inviting suitably qualified Nigerians to apply for various entry-level positions as the commission strengthens its workforce ahead of future electoral responsibilities.
According to a notice published on INEC’s official recruitment portal, the online application window opened on Monday, July 20, and will close on Monday, July 27, 2026. The commission said the exercise is designed to enhance its capacity in electoral administration, voter registration, election logistics and data management.
Available positions
INEC said vacancies are available across three broad categories:
Professional Cadre (Grade Levels 09, 10 and 12)
The commission is recruiting professionals in various fields, including:
- Accountants
- Lawyers
- ICT Officers
- Engineers
- Clinical Officers
- Quantity Surveyors
Applicants are expected to possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in relevant disciplines. Some positions also require professional certifications such as ICAN, ANAN, NBA, COREN, NSE, NIQS or CPN, depending on the role. Relevant post-qualification experience may also be required.
Administrative Officer II (Registration Area Officer) – GL 08
Candidates applying for this cadre must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in relevant disciplines, alongside an NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate.
Executive Officer (Assistant Registration Area Officer) – GL 07
Applicants for this entry-level category are also expected to possess the required academic qualifications and demonstrate basic ICT competence.
How to apply
INEC directed interested applicants to submit their applications online through its official recruitment portal by:
- Creating an account;
- Selecting a preferred vacancy;
- Completing the online application form;
- Uploading all required credentials; and
- Submitting the application before the deadline.
The commission noted that once an applicant selects a vacancy, it cannot be changed after submission. Only shortlisted candidates will proceed to the next stage of the recruitment process.
Recruitment is free
INEC stressed that the recruitment exercise is completely free of charge, warning applicants not to pay money to anyone claiming to offer employment into the commission.
It also cautioned candidates against submitting false information or forged documents, stating that such actions would lead to automatic disqualification and possible prosecution. Multiple applications by the same applicant will also result in disqualification.
Strengthening electoral administration
According to the commission, the recruitment is part of ongoing efforts to improve institutional capacity in preparation for future elections and to strengthen critical departments responsible for electoral administration, voter registration, logistics and information management.
The exercise comes as INEC continues preparations for off-cycle elections and lays the groundwork for the 2027 general elections.
INEC periodically recruits permanent staff to fill vacancies across its headquarters and state offices.
The commission has repeatedly advised Nigerians to rely only on its official recruitment portal for information and to ignore unofficial websites or individuals demanding payment for employment opportunities.
