Veteran Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri has officially been inducted as a Mayor of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), a role that will see him support public enlightenment, road safety advocacy and traffic compliance across Lagos. The appointment is part of the agency’s strategy to partner with respected public figures in promoting responsible road use.
One of Nigeria’s most celebrated Yoruba film icons, Yinka Quadri, has taken on a new public service role beyond the entertainment industry.
The veteran actor was formally decorated as a Mayor of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) during a ceremony held at the agency’s headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos, where officials described the appointment as part of efforts to strengthen public participation in traffic management.
The induction ceremony was presided over by the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, who presented Quadri with the official Mayor’s kit.
The agency said the honorary role is designed to enlist influential personalities who can use their public platforms to educate motorists, commuters and residents on road safety, traffic discipline and compliance with Lagos traffic regulations.
Speaking after the ceremony, Quadri described the appointment as a privilege and a call to greater public service.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and the LASTMA management for the confidence reposed in him.
According to the actor, the recognition goes beyond personal honour and places on him a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to promoting safer roads and improved traffic culture across Lagos.
The appointment reflects LASTMA’s growing emphasis on community engagement rather than relying solely on enforcement.
By involving celebrities, traditional leaders and other respected personalities, the agency hopes to encourage voluntary compliance with traffic laws and improve public awareness through advocacy campaigns.
Officials believe influential figures can help shape positive driving behaviour and reduce traffic violations by reaching audiences beyond conventional government communication channels.
With a career spanning several decades, Yinka Quadri remains one of the most recognisable faces in the Nigerian film industry.
His reputation and widespread popularity, particularly among Yoruba-speaking audiences, are expected to support LASTMA’s ongoing road safety campaigns aimed at reducing traffic infractions and improving civic responsibility across Lagos.
Quadri’s induction highlights the increasing collaboration between public institutions and influential cultural figures in advancing civic education. As he assumes his new responsibilities, expectations are high that his voice and public influence will contribute to promoting safer roads and greater respect for traffic regulations in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
