Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi says his vision for Nigeria is to create a society where employment and opportunities are based on competence rather than personal connections or political influence.
Peter Obi has said his ambition is to build a Nigeria where every citizen has equal access to opportunities, regardless of their family background or social status.
Speaking during an interview with Channels Television’s Seun Okinbaloye, Obi said his goal is to create a system where a poor person’s child can secure employment through merit instead of relying on connections or political patronage.
‘Merit Must Replace Connections’
According to Obi, Nigeria’s institutions should reward competence, hard work and integrity rather than influence.
He argued that many young Nigerians remain unemployed despite being qualified, while others secure jobs through personal relationships and political ties, a trend he said weakens public institutions and limits national development.
Focus on Job Creation
Obi reiterated that his administration, if elected, would prioritise investment in production, education and economic reforms aimed at creating sustainable employment opportunities.
He said economic growth should translate into real improvements in the lives of ordinary Nigerians, especially young people seeking meaningful jobs.

The former Anambra State governor made the remarks while outlining his vision for governance ahead of the 2027 presidential election, stressing that leadership should be centred on fairness, accountability and expanding opportunities for all citizens.
