Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi says he is not desperate to become Nigeria’s president, insisting that his overriding ambition is to see the country work, regardless of who occupies the nation’s highest office.
Peter Obi has said his participation in the 2027 presidential race is driven by a desire to transform Nigeria rather than by personal ambition.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics with Seun Okinbaloye, Obi stated that he would support any leader capable of moving Nigeria forward if the country was working effectively.
‘I Want Nigeria to Work’
Responding to questions about his presidential ambition, Obi said becoming president is not his ultimate objective.
According to him:
“I am not desperate to become President of Nigeria. I am desperate to see Nigeria work. If it is working, I will support whatever makes it work.”
Focus on National Development
The former Anambra State governor explained that his campaign is centred on improving governance, reducing poverty, creating jobs and strengthening public institutions.
He maintained that leadership should be judged by its ability to improve citizens’ lives rather than by political victories alone.

Obi’s remarks came as he outlined his vision for Nigeria ahead of the 2027 presidential election, emphasizing that the country’s progress is more important than personal political ambition.
