Abia State Governor Alex Otti has approved the payment of the first phase of veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu’s medical expenses following her emotional public appeal for financial assistance to undergo three life-saving surgeries.
Governor Otti’s intervention was announced on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, Martins Justice (JMartins), who disclosed that the governor had approved the initial payment toward the actress’s treatment.
The announcement comes days after Ngozi Nwosu revealed that she had been hospitalised for several weeks and required urgent surgeries estimated to cost ₦30 million.
Governor Steps In
In a statement shared on social media, JMartins expressed appreciation to Governor Otti for responding to the actress’s plight.
He noted that while the governor had approved the first tranche of the medical expenses, additional financial assistance would still be required to complete the treatment.
He also appealed to kind-hearted Nigerians to continue supporting the veteran actress as she battles her health challenges.
Actress Had Appealed for Help
Ngozi Nwosu recently made an emotional appeal to fans, colleagues and members of the public, revealing that she had been admitted to hospital for weeks and urgently needed three surgeries.
In the appeal, she pleaded with Nigerians not to abandon her, saying the cost of treatment had become overwhelming.
Creative Industry Welcomes Intervention
Members of the entertainment industry have welcomed Governor Otti’s gesture, describing it as a timely intervention for one of Nollywood’s veteran actresses.
However, JMartins reiterated that the governor’s support covers only part of the required expenses and encouraged well-wishers to continue contributing toward the remaining medical bills.
