The Kwara State Government has confirmed the release of victims abducted from Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area following the February attack.
No fewer than 176 people abducted during the February 3 attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have regained their freedom.
The Kwara State Government announced the development on Wednesday, expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, security forces and others involved in securing the victims’ release.
Victims Were Abducted in February
The victims, who were reportedly mostly women and children, were abducted during the deadly attack on the communities on February 3, 2026.
The development brings relief to families who had spent months waiting for the safe return of their relatives.
The state government credited security forces and other stakeholders for their efforts behind the scenes to secure the release.
Kwara Government Awaits More Details
Kwara Commissioner for Communications, Bola Olukoju, confirmed that the victims had been released but said the government was still awaiting further information from the military.
She explained that the victims were in military custody at the time of the announcement and that additional details would be provided once the security authorities released more information.
The commissioner also thanked the President, the military leadership and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for their roles in securing the release.
What We Know
The Kwara Government has confirmed the release of the Woro victims, while Channels Television reported that the victims were mainly women and children abducted in February.
However, officials said the exact number of those released was still subject to further confirmation from the military.
