Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has strengthened its position in the international aviation fuel market after supplying more than 400,000 tonnes of jet fuel to Europe in July.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has strengthened its position in the global aviation fuel market after emerging as Europe’s largest external supplier of jet fuel for the second consecutive month.

The refinery supplied more than 400,000 tonnes of jet fuel to the European market in July, according to reports, further expanding Nigeria’s presence in the international refined petroleum products market.

The development follows the refinery’s emergence as Europe’s largest external supplier of jet fuel in June, when it reportedly overtook the United States.

The latest figures indicate that Dangote Refinery has maintained its position at the top of the European jet fuel supply market for another month.

GLOBAL ENERGY MARKET

The development represents another milestone for the $20 billion Lekki-based refinery, which has increasingly become a major supplier of refined petroleum products to international markets.

Its growing presence in the aviation fuel market also comes as the facility expands its exports beyond Nigeria.

The refinery has been positioned by its operators as a major source of refined products for African and international markets, with aviation fuel becoming an increasingly important part of its export profile.

NIGERIA’S REFINING CAPACITY

The refinery’s growing export performance comes amid Nigeria’s broader push to reduce dependence on imported petroleum products and strengthen domestic refining capacity.

Dangote Refinery has previously stated its ambition to increase production and expand its role in international energy markets.

Reuters reported earlier that the company was planning further expansion of its refining capacity, with long-lead equipment already being acquired for future projects.

The latest jet fuel figures therefore reinforce the refinery’s emergence as one of Nigeria’s most significant players in the global downstream petroleum sector.
