Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Obamuyi as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, following the recommendation of the institution’s Governing Council.
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Obamuyi as the new substantive Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA), Akungba-Akoko. The appointment followed the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council after Obamuyi emerged as the top candidate in the institution’s selection process.
According to a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the Governing Council, chaired by Dr. Tunji Abayomi, recommended Professor Obamuyi after he finished first among the 15 candidates interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.
Professor Obamuyi, a Professor of Banking and Finance, will succeed the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige.
Before his appointment, Obamuyi served as the Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA and was also the first substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). He has participated in National Universities Commission accreditation exercises and was recognised as the Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa in 2015 by the Africa Education Leadership Awards in Mauritius.
The appointment follows the university’s established selection process and marks a leadership transition at one of Ondo State’s leading tertiary institutions. The development places Professor Obamuyi at the helm of the university as it continues its academic and institutional programmes.
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that Professor Obamuyi’s academic and administrative experience would consolidate the gains already recorded by the institution while advancing teaching, research and community service.
The governor also urged the incoming Vice-Chancellor to uphold the core values of the university by promoting peace, innovation and collaboration among staff, students and other stakeholders. He further assured that the Ondo State Government would continue to support AAUA in maintaining its position as one of Nigeria’s leading state-owned universities.
With the appointment now approved, Professor Tomola Obamuyi is expected to succeed Professor Olugbenga Ige as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, ushering in a new phase in the institution’s administration.
