Former Rivers State governor and ADC vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi has said Atiku Abubakar would restore electricity subsidy if elected president in 2027.
Amaechi made the declaration while campaigning for the ADC presidential candidate during visits to wards in Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State.
He used the opportunity to criticise the rising cost of electricity under the current administration.
Amaechi Highlights Rising Electricity Costs
Amaechi reportedly compared his previous electricity bills with his current costs, saying his monthly bill had risen dramatically.
He used the personal example to argue that Nigerians are struggling with the impact of higher electricity costs.
The former governor said Atiku’s proposed intervention would seek to make electricity more affordable.

The promise forms part of the ADC’s broader economic message ahead of the 2027 election.
Atiku has increasingly focused his campaign arguments on the cost of living, energy affordability and the consequences of the government’s economic reforms.

The issue of subsidies has remained one of the most contentious economic questions under Tinubu.
The President removed the petrol subsidy shortly after taking office, while electricity tariffs and government support for the power sector have also become major issues.
Amaechi’s latest statement indicates that subsidy policy could become a major campaign issue in 2027.
