Taraba State Government says the reduction affects workers under the Operation Keep Taraba Clean programme as part of ongoing financial adjustments.
The Taraba State Government has reduced the monthly stipends paid to workers under the “Operation Keep Taraba Clean” environmental programme, commonly known as street sweepers, from ₦15,000 to ₦10,000. Reports indicate that the decision was linked to financial adjustments by the state government.
The affected workers are part of the sanitation initiative established to maintain environmental cleanliness across parts of the state. The reduction represents a decrease in earnings for workers who rely on the programme for monthly income.
The development comes against the backdrop of previous concerns raised by street sweepers in the state regarding allowances and remuneration under the programme. Earlier reports showed workers had complained about discrepancies between promised and received payments.
State officials reportedly attributed the latest adjustment to financial considerations affecting the programme’s administration.
The government is yet to announce any further review of the revised stipend structure.
