The All Progressives Congress (APC) has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s record in office, with the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, claiming that the President has performed better than every democratically elected Nigerian president during their respective first terms.
Morka made the assertion during an interview on Channels Television while defending the Tinubu administration’s economic policies and overall performance.
According to the APC spokesman, Tinubu has outperformed every democratically elected president in Nigeria when their first terms are compared.
Morka argued that the indicators supporting the administration’s performance could be seen in the country’s economic situation.
He maintained that Tinubu inherited what he described as a severely troubled economy and had taken difficult decisions aimed at stabilising the country.
The APC spokesman’s assessment covers the administration’s economic reforms, which include the removal of petrol subsidy and changes to the foreign exchange regime.
Those reforms have, however, generated significant debate, with the government arguing that they are necessary for long-term economic stability while critics continue to point to the immediate impact on households.
Morka’s statement comes as the APC steps up its defence of Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The ruling party has increasingly framed the election as a referendum on the administration’s reforms and its claimed achievements in infrastructure, revenue generation and economic management.
Opposition parties, meanwhile, have continued to challenge the government’s record, particularly over the cost of living and the management of resources generated through subsidy removal.
Morka’s claim that Tinubu has outperformed every elected president is therefore a political assessment by the APC and not an independently established ranking.
With the 2027 election approaching, competing parties are expected to intensify efforts to define the administration’s record before voters.
