Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed confidence in the presidential prospects of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 election.

Bashir declared that Atiku was on course to become Nigeria’s next Commander-in-Chief, describing the former vice president’s growing political momentum as a significant development ahead of the election.

His comments add to the increasingly heated political contest surrounding the 2027 presidential race, with opposition parties and political figures seeking to build alliances capable of challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Atiku, who is contesting the election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, has positioned himself as an alternative to the APC administration and has intensified his criticism of the government’s economic policies.

Bashir El-Rufai’s intervention is also noteworthy because of his family’s political background in Kaduna and the wider northern political space.

The 2027 contest is already generating competing claims from supporters of the major political camps, with APC figures expressing confidence in Tinubu’s re-election prospects while opposition politicians argue that voters are increasingly looking for an alternative.

Bashir’s comments should therefore be viewed as a political assessment and endorsement rather than an established prediction of the election outcome.
