Residents flee in panic as insurgents launch fresh deadly attacks in Governor Buni’s hometown.
Fresh terror has erupted in Northern Nigeria after suspected Boko Haram insurgents reportedly attacked two military formations in Yobe State, leaving dozens of soldiers and security personnel feared dead.
The coordinated attacks reportedly occurred in areas linked to Buni Yadi, hometown of Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, throwing residents into panic as heavy gunfire and explosions rocked the communities overnight.
Security sources said the terrorists invaded the bases with sophisticated weapons, overpowering security operatives during hours of fierce confrontation. Several military assets were also reportedly destroyed during the assault.
The attack adds to growing fears over worsening insecurity in Nigeria’s North-East region, where Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters have continued launching deadly operations despite years of military offensives.
Videos and eyewitness accounts circulating online showed terrified residents fleeing their homes as fears of another large-scale insurgent occupation spread across nearby communities.
Many Nigerians have since taken to social media to criticize the country’s security architecture, with renewed calls for stronger military intelligence and urgent intervention from the federal government.
