Defence Minister Christopher Musa witnesses advanced AI surveillance and anti-drone systems during Monaco visit
The Federal Government is moving aggressively to modernise Nigeria’s security architecture with the proposed Multi-domain Hybrid Intelligence Shield (HIS), a sophisticated defence initiative expected to strengthen surveillance, intelligence gathering and national protection capabilities.
Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Christopher Musa, during a strategic working visit to Monaco, witnessed live demonstrations of cutting-edge military technologies including AI-powered threat identification systems, anti-drone interception platforms, radar detection tools and mobile surveillance operations.
The development comes amid growing security concerns across Nigeria, including terrorism, banditry, illegal mining, piracy and rising threats from unmanned aerial systems. Government officials say the Hybrid Intelligence Shield project is designed to create a unified defence network capable of responding rapidly to emerging threats across multiple domains.
According to officials involved in the discussions, the project is being developed in collaboration with MARSS UK Ltd and Nigerian partner MPS Mikopowers Ltd. The Federal Government says the initiative will not only strengthen national security but also encourage technology transfer and local defence capacity development.
Security analysts believe the introduction of AI-driven intelligence systems could significantly improve Nigeria’s response time against attacks, especially in volatile regions battling insurgency and organized crime. However, concerns are already emerging about funding, implementation and long-term maintenance of such sophisticated systems.
Despite the concerns, the latest move signals a major shift in Nigeria’s defence strategy as authorities increasingly embrace technology-driven warfare and surveillance in the fight against insecurity.
