The House of Representatives has directed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, to produce Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), within 48 hours as lawmakers intensify their investigation into the controversial agency.
The directive was issued on Monday during a resumed investigative hearing by the House Ad-hoc Committee probing the operations and legal status of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Chairman of the committee, Yusuf Gagdi, ordered that Adeyemi be presented before the panel by 12 noon on Wednesday to answer questions regarding the establishment and activities of the council, which lawmakers insist was never legally created.
Committee Questions Agency’s Legitimacy
Lawmakers maintained that the PFIPC lacks legal backing and expressed concern over allegations that the organisation operated as a government agency despite not being established by any Act of the National Assembly.
The committee also questioned how the body allegedly secured official recognition and attempted to carry out government-related functions.
Probe Uncovers Alleged Forged Documents
During the investigation, the committee disclosed that it had uncovered about 29 allegedly forged government documents linked to the operations of the PFIPC.
The lawmakers said the documents would form part of the ongoing investigation into the activities of the organisation and those behind it.
IGP Directed to Ensure Appearance
To ensure compliance, the committee instructed its clerk to formally communicate its resolution to the Inspector-General of Police, directing him to produce Adeyemi before lawmakers within the stipulated 48-hour period.
The appearance is expected to assist the committee in determining the legal status, activities and accountability of the controversial organisation.
