Alhaji Mujahid Abubakr Dokubo-Asari has visited the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, to invite the revered monarch to his forthcoming coronation ceremony as Da Amakiri Tubo.

The visit, which took place ahead of the planned coronation, was presented as an opportunity to strengthen relations between traditional institutions and promote mutual respect among Nigeria’s diverse communities.

According to a statement from Dokubo-Asari’s media office, the meeting featured an exchange of pleasantries and discussions reflecting the importance of maintaining cordial relationships among traditional rulers.

The statement described the visit as a demonstration of brotherhood, unity and responsible leadership, emphasising the role traditional institutions can play in encouraging peaceful coexistence.

Dokubo-Asari, who also bears the traditional titles Dabaye-Amakiri I and Amanyanabo, is preparing for a formal coronation ceremony scheduled for December 19, 2026, in Buguma, Rivers State. The ceremony is expected to mark an important occasion for his traditional leadership.

The Sultan of Sokoto, one of Nigeria’s most prominent traditional rulers, occupies an influential position in the country’s religious and cultural landscape. His engagement with traditional leaders from other regions provides an opportunity to strengthen inter-community relationships and encourage dialogue.

The visit also highlights the continuing role of traditional institutions in Nigeria’s public life, where monarchs and community leaders often serve as custodians of cultural heritage and advocates for peace.

Although traditional rulers operate within different cultural and historical contexts, their interactions can provide opportunities to build understanding across regional boundaries.

The planned coronation will bring further attention to Dokubo-Asari’s traditional role and the relationships he seeks to maintain with other institutions across the country.
