Former Cross River State Governor and presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Donald Duke, has argued that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is facing growing public dissatisfaction as Nigerians contend with worsening economic pressures.
Duke said the hardship experienced by citizens has contributed to a decline in public optimism and weakened the goodwill surrounding the President.
“Things have gone harder for people, a lot of people are disillusioned by his style of governance, hope has turned into despair,” Duke said.
The former governor was speaking against the backdrop of preparations for the 2027 presidential election, when the performance of the current administration is expected to become a major issue for voters.
Duke acknowledged Tinubu’s political experience and organisational strength but argued that political structures alone would not guarantee electoral success.
He said Nigerians would ultimately judge the administration by the realities they experience in their homes and businesses.
The PRP presidential candidate also maintained that opposition parties would need to develop a credible strategy if they intend to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
His comments come as political parties and potential presidential candidates increasingly position themselves ahead of the next general election.
