The presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Donald Duke, has urged opposition parties and political actors to overcome their differences and build a united front if they hope to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Duke, a former governor of Cross River State, described Tinubu as a formidable political opponent whose advantage as an incumbent should not be underestimated.
He made the remarks during an interview shared by Symfoni on Friday.
The former governor argued that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) already enjoys the institutional advantages that come with controlling the Federal Government, making it more difficult for fragmented opposition parties to mount an effective challenge.
According to Duke, opposition politicians risk undermining themselves if personal ambitions and political disagreements prevent them from working together.
He said the opposition must recognise the structural advantages enjoyed by an incumbent administration and develop a strategy capable of matching those advantages.
Duke also used a metaphor to emphasise his assessment of Tinubu’s political strength, describing the President as a formidable opponent who should not be underestimated.
The PRP candidate maintained that opposition parties would need to put aside individual interests and work towards a common political objective.
His comments come as opposition parties continue to explore alliances and political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The 2027 presidential contest is expected to feature a crowded field of political actors, with opposition figures debating whether cooperation or individual candidacies offer the best route to challenging the APC.
Duke’s position is that a fragmented opposition could ultimately benefit the incumbent.
He therefore urged political actors seeking to defeat Tinubu to prioritise collective strategy over individual ambition.
