The anti-graft agency says Nigeria Immigration Service Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap is not under investigation, despite ongoing prosecutions and investigations involving some immigration personnel over alleged visa-related fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed reports alleging that the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, is under investigation over alleged visa racketeering and related fraud.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the commission described the reports as false, clarifying that Nandap has no connection whatsoever with the ongoing investigations and prosecutions involving some immigration officers accused of visa-related fraudulent practices.
According to the commission, while it is actively investigating and prosecuting some personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service over alleged visa fraud and related offences, the Comptroller-General is not among those being investigated.
The EFCC stressed that reports suggesting otherwise were inaccurate and should be disregarded by the public.
“The commission wishes to state unequivocally that it has no case with the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service,” Oyewale said in the statement.
The clarification comes amid heightened public attention following reports linking senior immigration officials to alleged visa racketeering.
The EFCC explained that existing criminal cases involving some immigration officers remain before the Federal High Court, while additional investigations are ongoing. It added that more officers could face prosecution if evidence establishes their involvement in the alleged fraudulent activities.
However, the commission emphasized that those ongoing investigations do not involve the NIS Comptroller-General.
The EFCC’s statement followed widespread media reports and social media speculation suggesting that Nandap had been drawn into the anti-graft agency’s investigation.
By issuing the clarification, the commission sought to distinguish between investigations involving certain immigration personnel and claims concerning the head of the service.
The agency urged the public and media organisations to avoid spreading unverified reports capable of misleading Nigerians or damaging reputations.
The Nigeria Immigration Service has in recent years introduced reforms aimed at improving passport issuance and visa administration while reducing opportunities for corruption through increased automation.
Separately, the EFCC has intensified investigations into allegations of corruption and fraudulent practices across several public institutions, including cases involving immigration personnel accused of exploiting visa and immigration processes.
As of the latest update, no allegation has been formally made against Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap by the EFCC, and the commission has expressly stated that she is not under investigation.
