The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed more than 40 members of its workforce over allegations of corruption and financial malpractice during the past three years.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede disclosed the figure during a media engagement in Abuja while reviewing his stewardship at the commission.
According to Olukoyede, more than five of the affected officers are currently facing prosecution, while other cases have been subjected to internal disciplinary procedures.
“In the past two and a half years or three years of my service, I’ve asked them to dismiss over 40 staff on account of corruption and financial malpractice. More than five of them are being prosecuted at the moment,” Olukoyede said.
The EFCC chairman said the commission must be prepared to investigate and discipline its own personnel if it expects Nigerians and other institutions to comply with its anti-corruption drive.
He stressed that membership of the commission does not place any officer above accountability.
The disclosure comes as the EFCC continues to intensify investigations into financial crimes, asset recovery and corruption across the country.
The commission has also reported significant recoveries during Olukoyede’s tenure, including more than ₦1.23 trillion and hundreds of millions of dollars recovered between October 2023 and June 2026.
Olukoyede’s disclosure about internal disciplinary action highlights the commission’s attempt to address misconduct within its own ranks while pursuing its wider anti-corruption mandate.
