Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has announced plans to name the state’s new court complex after Justice Oyebisi Folayemi Omoleye, the first woman to serve as Chief Judge of Ekiti State.
Oyebanji made the announcement during a special valedictory court session held in honour of Justice Omoleye at the High Court complex in Ado Ekiti.
The governor said the decision was intended to recognise her contribution to the administration of justice and her years of dedicated service to Ekiti State and Nigeria.
Justice Omoleye enjoyed a judicial career spanning several decades, serving at different levels before her elevation to the Court of Appeal.
She is retiring from the appellate court after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 70.
In addition to announcing the naming of the new court complex, Oyebanji presented the retiring judge with a new Toyota SUV.
The governor described the gesture as a token of appreciation for her service to the judiciary and for the distinction with which she represented the state throughout her career.
The decision to name a major judicial facility after Justice Omoleye also highlights her place in Ekiti’s legal history as the state’s first female Chief Judge.
Her career has spanned a period of significant development within Nigeria’s judiciary, including her progression from the state-level bench to the Court of Appeal.
The state government’s gesture is expected to preserve her institutional legacy while recognising the contribution of women to the Nigerian judiciary.
The announcement was made as legal practitioners, judicial officers and other stakeholders gathered to mark her retirement from active judicial service.
