Ogun State Police say three suspects have been arrested over the killing of retired OGTV broadcaster Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, with the prime suspect allegedly confessing that the attack was meant to “teach her a lesson.”
The Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of three suspects in connection with the killing of retired Ogun State Television broadcaster, Madam Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, at the broadcaster’s residence in Ogun State.
Police said the prime suspect, identified as a former employee of the deceased, confessed that the attack was carried out to “teach her a lesson.” According to the command, the suspect allegedly recruited two others for the operation, which led to the deaths of both Oyesiku and Adetayo. Reports said the incident occurred at the retired broadcaster’s residence in Owode-Egba, where the suspects first overpowered the security guard before gaining access to the house.
The case has since drawn wider attention because of the profile of the victim and the nature of the alleged confession. What began as the killing of a retired media figure has now shifted into a criminal investigation involving a former employee and an apparent account of premeditation.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni, who disclosed the arrests during a press briefing in Abeokuta, said the suspects were taken into custody following police investigation into the double murder. The command’s position, as presented, is that the former employee coordinated the attack and that the motive, according to the suspect’s statement, was to “teach her a lesson.”
For now, the police say three suspects are in custody over the killings, while the case has moved from public outrage over the deaths to a more detailed criminal account of how the attack was allegedly planned and executed.
